Yoga vs Yoga, who will win?

Last week, I attended a class with a new yoga teacher. He obviously knows his stuff. He had me sweating like a pig within moments. The thing is, we sat on the mat at the beginning of class and dived right into yoga poses. Where is the fun in that?

My regular teacher starts us off with a sit. A brief story with a point that usually helps us focus our intention for this particular session. We sit, we close our eyes, we witness our body, we calm the monkey mind, and then, then we do yoga.

The difference: Even though the new teacher’s workout was more rigourous, it was not anywhere near as fullfilling. My regular teacher’s workouts are more holistic, more in-line with how I want to practice yoga.

Ease into the practice, ease into a session, sit for a while and dedicate that session. Have a goal, have an intention. Then, practice every pose with that intention.

It’s just so much more satisfying that way.
